Summer is winding down but you can't tell it from the temps. Warm this week with day time highs in the eighties all week. The water has dropped down to low levels again so the water temps are reacting to the air temps. That means early am is going to be the best time to get after trout in the Ausable. There has been some solid trico action as well as isonychia and flying ants. Did you know that the heaviest ant hatches occur during full moon periods? Its a handy piece of info and should keep you looking forward to the September full moon.
The Ausable has already dropped 1000 cfs and is at a high but very fishable level. Air temp at this time is a cool but comfortable 46 degrees, yeah, It's going to be a dandy.

Sunday we got the rain we were wishing for and the river is up as a result. Should be that way for a couple of days but it will set us up nice for the next few weeks. It was a real soaker but we really needed it.

Air Temps will dip into the forties tonight and will give the river a bigger cool down than last night. Water temp this morning was 63 and ther was a nice trico fall. The fish are responding well to the cooler temps and the morning fishing has been decent to good. Isonychias continue to increase in numbers and the nymph under a hopper is a fine way to finish up the morning. Things are getting better by the day, shaping up to be a great September.
The Adirondack Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will host it's 7th annual pig roast on Saturday the 14th at the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club. Doors open at 4PM, It is a great time and all proceeds benefit wetland restoration and preservation. The whole gang will be there, we hope you can join us.
